Despite the fact that the center of their religion is a Goddess, the Proper Order of things has warped the Goddess's teachings and taken the idea of protecting women right past go and into jail. At the start of the series, women are not allowed to Dungeon Dive or hold positions of power.

The Queens is the name of a group of noble women who attend the school. Unlike the Kings, the group cannot be joined through success in battle, but instead is a token group of women who are strong in magic, and will make powerful consorts to better show off their husband's power.

Some women, such as Valerie Starflower, have plans to change that.

The head of the Queens, Valerie is in a unique position in history where she is the oldest daughter of the Seelie Ard Ri Adoivencal Terithni’i Unlar Starflower who has no sons. All other political rivals to the Seelie throne were born Unseelie, and her lineage is impeccable. Both the Seelie and the Unseelie Ard Ris support her as the heir to the Seelie throne. She is a magical superpower, and she knows for certain that she is stronger than her fiancé, which means he will be forced to be her consort not the other way around, the final key in her plan.

She has a genuine chance at being the first Seelie Ard Ri.

All she has to do is marry one man and eliminate all rivals.
